Slipstream has become known for switching genders and presenting classic relationships in a way that is fresh and relate-able, and Othello is yet another step in the direction of gender exploration and stereotype shattering. War has come to Cyprus; the island lies crippled under siege from the most feared and admired naval officer on the ocean - Othello.
A very sly con-man with HUGE ideas convinces people that he can make them great again and suddenly everything runs amok. Sound familiar? Oh wait, were you thinking of politics? We would NEVER be political! We're, of course, talking about Moliere's esteemed classic Tartuffe! Silly you.
What do you get when you mix puppets, the talented actors at The Ringwald Theatre, and Tony Award-nominated comedy? An excellent night of theatre that will keep you laughing and maybe even make you think when all is said and done. The Ringwald's production of Hand to God is quick witted, off-beat, exceptionally acted with outstanding puppetry, and is not the typical happy-go-lucky stage show, but it is one of the funniest shows you will see this season.

After an extended run of Ibsen's Hedda Gabler, Slipstream is lightening up a bit just in time for spring. The young company is proudly presenting Easter by August Strindberg. One of his lesser known plays, this production delves into the darkness and light of religious allegory. A family unit is publicly ruined and awaits the "Giant" to come and take away everything they own to pay a very old debt. With characters that remind us of ourselves and of certain Biblical figures, the play gives the audience a chance to rethink the stories they thought they knew, posing thought-provoking questions. What is sanity, and who are we to define it? When we suffer, is someone not suffering more? If a debt is owed, must it not be paid? And, how far can you see with your magnifying eye?
Just in time for the winter holidays, Slipstream Theatre Initiative kicks off its second season with the festive Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare. In the true spirit of 'The Epiphany' on which the "twelfth night" holiday and play were based, this production serves up joy and awakenings through a ring of fire. Slipstream sets the action in a run-down traveling sideshow, where the dried out performers have outlived their novelty. Until two mysterious outsiders from who-knows-where join the tired act and give it new life.
