Photo Flash: The 3rd Annual Chicago Musical Theatre Festival

Underscore Theatre Company is pleased to present its third annual CHICAGO MUSICAL THEATRE FESTIVAL, featuring 14 new musical productions. Created to showcase and support Chicago's burgeoning field of musical theatre creators, this year's festival will be held August 9 - 28, 2016 at Victory Gardens Richard Christiansen Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln Ave. in Chicago. Each production will receive four performances during the Festival. The full schedule (Tuesdays - Sundays) and can be found at www.cmtf.org, with tickets currently on sale ($20 per show, $200 all-festival rush passes). The press "sneak preview," featuring a sampling of songs from the 2016 Festival, is Monday, August 8 at 7:30 pm.

The cast and staff of Brown Paper Box Co.'s summer production of Now. Here. This. was surprised on Friday, August 5 by the show's original creative team, collaborators, and stars. Jeff Bowen (music and lyrics), Tony Award nominee Hunter Bell (book), and original director and choreographer Michael Berresse caught the Chicago premiere of their work and met with Brown Paper Box Co.'s team and audience members following the performance. Brown Paper Box Co. opened its 2016/2017 season with Mary'z with a 'Z,' a cover-to-cover tribute to 1972's Emmy-winning 'Liza With a 'Z' broadcast featuring BPBCo. members, alumni, and fresh faces presenting and reinventing Bob Fosse & Marvin Hamlisch's set list in its entirety. Mary'z with a 'Z' was an evening of song, dance, drag, and reinterpreted numbers by over a dozen of Chicago's finest artists. Brown Paper Box Co. opens its 2016/2017 season with MARY'Z WITH A 'Z,' a cover-to-cover tribute to 1972's Emmy-winning 'Liza With a 'Z' broadcast featuring BPBCo. members, alumni, and fresh faces presenting and reinventing Bob Fosse & Marvin Hamlisch's setlist in its entirety. The evening begins with Kander and Ebb's 'Yes' and ends with a 5-song Cabaret medley. Mixed in are a plethora of standards, show tunes, and numbers written specifically for Ms. Minnelli.
