On Friday, November 8th White Horse Theater Company opened the World Premiere of Broken Story written and directed by Cyndy A. Marion at The Gene Frankel Theatre (24 Bond Street, New York, NY 10012).

Ophelia Theatre Group, a leading player in Astoria's theatre scene, is presenting its spring musical Lysistrata Jones. Spearheaded by a female-driven production team, Lysistrata tells the tale of a determined cheerleader who leads the students around her in a battle of the sexes. With a rocking score written by Lewis Flinn and book by five-time Tony nominee Douglas Carter Beane, the show will be an immersive experience performed on a faux basketball court at the back of the Variety Boys and Girls Club in Queens. In the first production in New York since its Broadway run, Ophelia Theatre is thrilled to be giving a new feminist life to this baller cult classic! In February, the White Horse Theater Company, which has produced several rarely seen Williams plays such as A Perfect Analysis Given by a Parrot, In the Bar of a Tokyo Hotel and I Can't Imagine Tomorrow, will present a unique & immersive production of the Tennessee Williams dark comedy A Cavalier for Milady at the historic Players Club at Gramercy Park (16 Gramercy Park South) with performances on February 7 at 8pm, February 8 at 8pm and February 9 at 7pm and 9:30pm. The 2/7 show will be followed by a WHTC 15th Anniversary Celebration with a live jazz performance and the 2/8 show will be followed by a moderated talk-back with renowned Tennessee Williams scholar Dr. Annette J. Saddik.

The Book of Lambert opened on February 14 and continues through March 1, 2009 in a limited engagement at the historic La MaMa e.t.c. as part of their Black History Month celebration.

The Book of Lambert depicts the lives of six lost souls hiding from society in the subterranean depths of an abandoned NYC subway tunnel. Their leader is Lambert, an African-American man who has been hurt - possibly beyond repair - by his former love, a beautiful Caucasian woman. A bright but disillusioned ex-college professor, Lambert begins writing a prophetic book on life. In an effort to guide and re-focus this wayward flock, Lambert unleashes his own identity issues while coming face to face with the demons of his past. The Book of Lambert is a telling story of how our histories can haunt us, and how we may or may not recover from them.
