In a special one-night-only event, Portland Opera will celebrate Maestro George Manahan's tenure as Portland Opera's Music Director with a concert in his honor. The Portland Opera Chorus and Orchestra will be featured, as well as guest artists and friends performing arias and ensemble pieces in a night of celebration. The George & Friends Concert will take place on Friday, May 13, 2022, at 7:30PM at the Keller Auditorium. Delta David Gier, distinguished conductor, is the recipient of the 2022 Ditson Conductor's Award for the advancement of American music, Columbia University has announced. Gier will receive $5,000 and a citation on behalf of Columbia's President Lee C. Bollinger. Previous recipients include Gustav Meier, David Zinman, Alan Gilbert, George Manahan, Leonard Bernstein, Marin Alsop, Oliver Knussen, and John Adams.

Portland Opera is thrilled to bring its production of Gioachino Rossini's The Barber of Seville to the stage this June. Considered one of the greatest comic operas of all time, Rossini's opera tells the story of the Count Almaviva, who has fallen for the charming Rosina, and enlists the help of the town barber Figaro to assist in winning her affection. Together they try to outwit her guardian Dr. Bartolo, who also vies for her hand. Portland Opera will present four performances of The Barber of Seville on June 7, 9m, 13, 15 at the Keller Auditorium.
