David Freeman Coleman – Associate Professor of Theater at Boston Conservatory, Director of Choral Music at the Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Minister of Music at Greater Framingham Community Church, and Lecturer of Music and Director of the 225-voice Tufts University Gospel Choir. Past music direction credits include CHOIR BOY (SpeakEasy Stage – 2020 Eliot Norton Award Nomination for Outstanding Music Direction), MISS YOU LIKE HELL (Company One/A.R.T.), MAD MOON (Emerson College), CABARET (Boston Children’s Theater), THE WIZ (Eastern Nazarene College). Associate Music Director BEST OF BOTH WORLDS (A.R.T.) and VIOLET (SpeakEasy Stage). Rehearsal Pianist for THE GERSHWINS’ PORGY AND BESS (2012 Tony Award Winner – Best Revival), WAITRESS, CROSSING, and WE LIVE IN CAIRO (A.R.T.). Performances at the White House, the Vatican, Carnegie Hall, Symphony Hall, the House of Blues, the Wang Center, and Fenway Park. Long Wharf Theatre announced today additional details for fall programming at 222 Sargent Drive as part of Act 1 of its 2022-2023 season. Dignity, Always Dignity will be presented on September 10 and 11, while performances for Jelly’s Last Jam will take place on September 17 and 18.

BWW Review: ONCE ON THIS ISLAND at Speakeasy Stage Proves that Love Can Prevail


The first and only production of ONCE ON THIS ISLAND I saw was a concert production featuring an all-white cast. So, when I heard that Speakeasy Stage would be producing the show, I was excited to be able to see how it is meant to be performed. This production, directed by Pascale Florestral and music directed by David Freeman Coleman, did not disappoint.
