Already in previews, Center Theatre Group’s Associate Artist Phylicia Rashad directs Pearl Cleage’s Blues for an Alabama Sky at the Mark Taper Forum, with opening night April 13th. Set in 1930’s Harlem, the cast includes Joe Holt, Nija Okoro, Dennis Pearson, Greg Alverez Reid and Kim Steele. I had the opportunity to question Greg on some behind-the-scenes of Blues, as well as his history with his storied director.

Officials with University of Kentucky and The Kentucky Center announced today at Holmes Hall that UK has been named the future home of The Kentucky Center Governor's School for the Arts (GSA), an annual three-week intensive summer arts residency program for Kentucky high school sophomores and juniors. Beginning in 2019, UK College of Fine Arts will host the program for four years.

Breaking Glass Pictures has acquired North American rights to first time writer/director Anthony J. Caruso's tender, LGBTQ religious-dramaBROTHERLY LOVE. Breaking Glass acquired rights to the film in a deal negotiated between Breaking Glass CEO Rich Wolff and Caruso on behalf of his company Red Dawn. Productions. The film will open theatrically in Los Angeles on August 3, followed by a DVD & VOD release on August 7, 2018.

Actress and producer Sophina Brown is on a mission to bring the wonderful work of August Wilson to the Los Angeles community. Her goal is to produce August Wilson's American Century Cycle in Los Angeles in its entirety. What begin as a group of actors meeting up to read August Wilson plays at her house, has evolved into the first production.

The cast is set for the Center Theatre Group/Mark Taper Forum production of "Immediate Family" by Paul Oakley Stovall. As the second show in the 48th season at the Mark Taper Forum, the play will begin on April 22 and continues through June 7, 2015, with the opening taking place on May 3.

Brown) announced today that Phillip Hayes Dean's (Drama Desk-winner for The Sty of the Blind Pig) powerful and moving play PAUL ROBESON has been extended by popular demand for three more performances and will now play through Sunday, April 27, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. The production, directed by Mr. Dean, stars two-time Emmy Award-winner Keith David (Fox's new series Enlisted) with accompaniment by pianist/musical director Byron J. Smith (working with numerous artists including Wynton Marsalis, Barbra Streisand, BeBe Winans). Ebony Repertory Theatre announced today that performances for Phillip Hayes Dean's (Drama Desk-winner for The Sty of the Blind Pig) powerful and moving play PAUL ROBESON will resume performances on Friday, March 21, 2014 at 8:00 p.m. Two-time Emmy Award-winner Keith David (Fox's new series Enlisted), who stars in this one-man play, returns to the stage after recovering from a knee injury. PAUL ROBESON, directed by Mr. Dean, also includes accompaniment by pianist/musical director Byron J. Smith (working with numerous artists including Wynton Marsalis, Barbra Streisand, BeBe Winans). The production will continue to play through Sunday, March 30, which was part of the previously announced schedule. Three additional performances are set for Friday, April 18 at 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, April 19 at 8:00 p.m.; and Sunday, April 20 at 7:00 p.m. to make up for the canceled opening weekend performances (Friday, March 14 at 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, March 15 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 16 at 2:00 p.m.).
