Artistic Director of On the Isle, Carl is the Creative Director of the event division of Shackman Associates in New York. A native New Yorker, Carl is a graduate of Emerson College in Boston and is listed in “Who’s Who in American Colleges”, “Who’s Who in Entertainment, is the co-lyricist of the official New York State song “Freedom”, and was featured as one of New York’s “HOTSHOTS” in the New York Daily News.
Carl’s Background lies with long career in the theatre, Recently assisted Gillian Lynne in the direction and choreography of “Jerry Herman’s musical DEAR WORLS in London's west End staring Betty Buckley. Some credits include the Broadway and off Broadway productions: JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT, FORBIDDEN BROADWAY, MAYOR, WHEN PIGS FLY. ALMOST LIVE FROM THE BETTY FORD CLINIC, THE ALUMINUM GARDEN, RAGS, H. FINN ESQ the National Tours of SUGAR BABIES with Carol Channing, ANNIE, A CHORUS LINE and WOMAN OF THE YEAR with Lauren Bacall, part of the Producing team for the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Show. Assistant Director to Gillian Lynne (Broadway director/choreographer of mega hits CATS, PHANTOM of THE OPERA) on productions in New York, San Diego, London and Vienna and Associate to Charles Strouse (Broadway composer of ANNIE and BYE BYE BIRDIE).
Some events include: Spiderman DVD release party at the Supper Club. Product launches for Tivo at the Four Seasons and The Russian Tea Room, Hershey in Times Sq, MGM Grand Air , Yahoo at Grand Central, Motorola, Opening day at Universal Studios Florida, Frank Sinatra’s 75th Birthday Tour. Openings for the movies ONCE AROUND with Holly Hunter and HAVANA with Robert Redford. Events with Diana Ross, Herb Alpert, Chevy Chase, Natalie Cole, Merv Griffin, Carol Burnett, Bobby McFerrin as well as the many Broadway personalties.
Corporate events for New York Life, CNN, NBC, Hilton, Fox, MTV, T-mobile, The Lifestyles Alliance for Leading hotels of the World and Relais & Chateaux. Global Hotel Alliance at the Omni at International, YPO-WPO The Panasonic International Awards, Volkswagen, Kiel's, Prudential At the Plaza with Neil Sedaka, Outward Bound’s Annual Benefit Gala, WBGO, American Express, Centerbridge, Farm Bureau, Charles Schwab, Campbell’s, The ITI World Symposium, CIES Americas and Tellus.
He’s been hit by a taxi cab in the film GHUSTBUSTERS punched out in the film HEART with Brad Davis and turned down for a date by Molly Ringwald in the movie Pick up artist! and most of that film career ended up on the cutting room floor. On stage highlights include Billy Crocker in ANYTHING GOES, TIGER in WEST SITE STORY (ATC New York) and performed for the Desert Storm Troops at McDill Air force Base.
Some Benefit productions Carl has directed across the country include Good Samaritan’s Bob and Delores Hope AWARDS, United Cerebral Palsy at Tulsa’s Brady Theater, American Cancer Society at Charleston’s Galliard Theatre, North East Maine Medical Center at Maine Center for the Performing Arts in Bangor, Mass General’s Vincent Memorial Hospital at Boston’s Majestic Theatre, Neighbor Coalition for Shelters at the Metropolitan Pavilion, Tampa’s Jr League at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, and MAGIC ME in Baltimore which gave Carl the once in a life time opportunity to work with most of Broadway’s greatest composers and lyricists including Andrew Lloyd Webber and Stephen Sondheim and Jerry Herman to name a few.
