Next month, 54 BELOW will present some of the brightest stars from Broadway, cabaret, jazz, and beyond.

Company XIV opened their newest show “Queen of Hearts” at Theatre XIV in Bushwick with a glam Broadway crowd that came down the rabbit hole in attendance. See photos below.

New Repertory Theatre (New Rep) has fully cast its production of The Normal Heart, for a three-week run June 21 through July 9, 2023, in the Black Box Theater of the Mosesian Center for the Performing Arts in Watertown, MA.  

In one of the most mesmerizing performances in recent memory, Jade Wheeler answers the question with a stunning interpretation of Eartha Kitt, both as an artist and as a person. With a foundation of creative direction by Cailin Doran, outstanding piano accompaniment by music director Seulah Noh, and synergistic design elements, Wheeler does the rest with the power of her voice, her magnetic gaze, and her expressive movements.

Fresh off its enormous - and enormously successful - world premiere production of George Brant's Dark Room, Bridge Rep launches into its sixth year overall, and second in residence at the Multicultural Arts Center in East Cambridge. Here's the lineup:

Olivia D'Ambrosio's vision for DARK ROOM is an artistic blend of spoken dialogue, choreographed movement, evocative sounds and music, and the best use of the architectural features of the space at the Multicultural Arts Center in East Cambridge. George Brant's play is inspired by the life, death, and photography of Francesca Woodman, and Bridge Rep employs a cast of 22 women to portray the subjects of Woodman's works.

Moonbox Productions, Director Allison Olivia Choat, and Music Director Dan Rodriguez pay precise attention to the musical framework of Peter Shaffer's AMADEUS, with music performed by the Baroque ensemble Grand Harmonie Orchestra. Matthew Zahnzinger owns the spotlight as Antonio Salieri and newcomer Cody Sloan embodies the boyishness of the prodigy. The cast impresses, but the playwright had a hard time finding an ending he liked, so be prepared for a long night.

I was encouraged to see so many students in the audience experiencing this required reading masterpiece in a whole new light.

The regional premiere of The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and adapted for the stage by Simon Levy, will open at the Arvada Center on April 29, 2014. The Great Gatsby directed by Gavin Mayer, will run in the intimate Black Box Theater April 29 - May 25, 2014. Performances are Tuesday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday at 1:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Previews are today, April 25, 26 and 27 at 7:30 p.m.. Due to popular demand three 1:00 p.m. matinees have been added on Thursdays, May 1, 8 and 15.

After last years carefully orchestrated and geniusly executed hit comedy, I was a little surprised at the lack attention to the finer funny details in this comedic classic

The next production in Town Hall Arts Center's 2013-2014 Season will be Boeing-Boeing, by Marc Camoletti, translated by Beverly Cross & Francis Evans. Boeing-Boeing is directed by Robert Wells, Henry Award winning director of Town Hall's 2013 production of The 39 Steps and director of last year's Annie.

Spark Theater presents Shakespeares MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, September 6 thorugh October 5, 2013.

On Thursday, February 7 at noon, the Arvada Center opens the children's theater production No Dogs Allowed, written by Sonia Manzano ('Maria' from Sesame Street), music by Stephan Lawrence, lyrics by Billy Aronson and directed by Edith Weiss. The show will run February 7 - April 12, 2013. Performances are 10:00 a.m. and noon, most Tuesdays through Fridays, select Saturdays at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. For specific show dates please check our website.
