Celebrated singer / actor Domingo Quiñones returns to the stage tonight to star in the hit Off-Broadway musical I Like It Like That, taking over the role of Roberto, originated by Grammy nominee Tito Nieves. Quiñones will team up again with writer/producer David Maldonando who worked together on ¿Quien Mato a Hector Lavoe?. I Like It Like That is written by David Maldonado & Waddys Jaquez and directed by Waddys Jaquez and now run through the end of January, 2017. NewArts, a nonprofit theatrical production organization in Newtown, CT, is producing its sixth and seventh shows for its summer, 2016 season incorporating nearly 200 children from the Newtown area onstage, backstage and in the orchestra as a continuation of its mission to use the performing arts to promote healing and strength. NewArts was founded by local parent, Michael Baroody, M.D. and brings in a talented team of nearly 20 theatre professionals including Broadway-level directors, choreographers, music directors, designers, producers, and technicians to guide the children in this endeavor of creativity, collaboration and community.

The York Theatre Company presented the inaugural College Winter Intensive program this month, offering college students the unique opportunity of taking classes in an off-Broadway theatre near the heart of New York's theatre district during the winter break. The College of New Rochelle's production of NINE including Louise Edeiken, an original Broadway cast member, will be performed November 7 to 16 at the College. Based on Federico Fellini's semi-autobiographical film 8½, the show examines the midlife crisis and creative block of film director Guido Contini, as told first-hand by the romantic partners who have influenced him and become entangled in his life.

If your musical taste runs to Elliott Carter--or even Nico Muhly, whose TWO BOYS premiered at the Met this fall--then Kirke Mechem's THE RIVALS, which had its NY premiere this month at the Bronx Opera Company, may not be your cup of tea. But for a rollicking good time, this operatic adaptation of the great Restoration comedy of the same name by Richard Brinsley Sheridan has few rivals among its contemporaries.
