Dallas Opera Opens Season With RIGOLETTO in October

The production, directed by Tomer Zvulun and starring a cast of today's most celebrated singers, including George Gagnidze (TDO debut), Madison Leonard (TDO debut), René Barbera, Raymond Aceto, and Nadia Krasteva, opens at the Winspear Opera House on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 8:00pm.

The Cleveland Orchestra announces its 2022 Blossom Music Festival season presented by The J.M. Smucker Co. with a lineup of concerts. Nineteen concerts are currently part of the 2022 Blossom Music Festival, which runs from the Fourth of July through Labor Day weekend (July 2 – September 4) at the Orchestra’s scenic summer home nestled in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Concluding their celebratory 20th Anniversary Season, the Las Vegas Philharmonic will present Ode To Joy in the season finale on Saturday, May 11, at 7:30 p.m. at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts.  The program will feature one of the most celebrated and beloved works by Beethoven, his joyous Symphony No. 9, which was the first example of a major composer using voices in a symphony, making it a "choral" symphony.  The words are sung during the final movement by four vocal soloists and a chorus and were taken from 'Ode to Joy', a poem written by French poet, Friedrich Schiller in 1785 and revised in 1803, with text additions made by Beethoven.  The Philharmonic's chorus-in-residence, Las Vegas Master Singers, and acclaimed vocalists, Felicia Moore (soprano), Kelley O'Connor (mezzo), Sean Panikkar (tenor) and Raymond Aceto (bass) will lend their exquisite voices to the rousing and celebratory finale. UNLV Concert Singers and UNLV Chamber Chorale will join in the chorus.  German violin sensation, Thomas Reif, will perform with the orchestra on Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto. 

BWW Review: Washington National Opera's FAUST is a Devilishly Good Time

Few works have inspired such a long-lasting legacy as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's Faust. The Faustian bargain has become a common expression for metaphorically selling one's soul in order to obtain their goals. Of course, the metaphor is much less metaphorical in von Goethe's work and, subsequently, the Charles Gounod opera which stems from this German classic. Gounod's opera isn't always perfect, but the Washington National Opera's new production which opened at the Kennedy Center on Saturday evening breathes enough life into this classic that you'll likely not notice the over three hours you've spent watching the drama unfold.

A man who sells his soul for worldly gain finds a perfect home in the Beltway as Washington National Opera stages Charles Gounod's 1859 opera Faust,performed in French with projected English titles. After a 25-year absence from its stage, WNO resurrects the French classic filled with depression, damnation, and demons in the Kennedy Center Opera House. Immortalized by Goethe's dramatic work, Gounod set the legendary German tale of Faust to music with libretto by Jules Barbier and Michel Carre. The opera follows the aging Dr. Faust who is willing to exchange Heaven's rewards for Earth's mortal pleasures. After a pact with Mephistopheles that restores his youth, Faustpursues the lovely Marguerite only to learn his salvation is tragically bound to others, especially for those he loves most. In the tradition of grand French opera and featuring a storybook aesthetic and memorable music, including Marguerite's "Jewel Song," the Soldiers' Chorus and the final trio, Faust returns for six performances, March 16-30, 2019, with tickets starting at $45.

The Las Vegas Philharmonic will start selling its FLEX PASS to patrons on Monday, July 2, 2018.  This will be the fourth concert season that the Philharmonic has offered the Flex Pass as an alternative to its traditional subscription packages.  FLEX PASS is a membership-based program that offers customization and flexibility for patrons to decide which concert(s) they want to attend at a later date.  The FLEX PASS offers 6 seats to any of the Philharmonic's Reynolds Hall performances in the upcoming 2018?2019 season.  The seats can be redeemed all at once or broken into any configuration, using up to a maximum of 6 seats.

San Francisco Opera's presentation of Richard Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung) opens tonight with the first of three complete cycles, each presented over the course of one week as the composer originally intended, from June 12 through July 1 at the War Memorial Opera House. Encompassing four operas-Das Rheingold, Die Walkure, Siegfried and Gotterdammerung-and more than 17 hours, Wagner's Ring is one of the most ambitious works of music, theater and stagecraft ever created.
