When Berlioz fell for Shakespearean actress Harriet Smithson, he fell hard, and the world benefitted. The resulting Symphonie fantastique is a work of marvelous orchestral colours and effects conjuring the aching passions and obsessions of man hopelessly in love. You’re in for a wild ride when Cameron Carpenter ("smasher of cultural and classical music taboos" L.A. Times) brings his staggering talent – and sequined shoes – to Southam Hall.
