“The heart’s jewel” …that’s what Mendelssohn’s genially-inspired Concerto has been called. Among the most popular in the repertoire it not only lets soloists display technical brilliance, but also calls upon them to interpret the work’s emotional content. Taking the soloist spotlight is Canadian Karen Gomyo, whom The Chicago Tribune praises as “a first-rate artist of real musical command, vitality, brilliance and intensity…” Thomas Dausgaard also conducts Bruckner’s Second Symphony—rich in brass sonorities, expansive, and soaring—a vast cathedral of sound.
