A concert inspired by the forces of destiny and love. In just nine minutes Brahms’s profound choral masterpiece Song of Destiny, set on Friedrich Hölderlin’s poem of the same name, contrasts the tranquil existence of the Olympian gods with the darker fate of mankind. Brahms’s Third Symphony, whose emotional palette paints in colours of yearning, reflection, and serenity, serves as a beautiful companion piece to Schicksalslied. In between, Schönberg’s radiant string sextet is an ultra-romantic depiction of an encounter in a wooded grove on a cold, moonlit night beautifully transfigured by love.
