Ottawa Little Theatre Brings RIPCORD to Ottawa This January

Ripcord, a comedy of one-upmanship as two feisty senior ladies compete for their rightful place, comes to the Ottawa Little Theatre starting January 9, 2019. The show, directed by Riley Stewart, currently has a closing night set for January 26, 2019.

Ripcord is written by playwright David Lindsay-Abaire, who won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for his play Rabbit Hole and who wrote the book and lyrics for Shrek the Musical (nominated for the 2009 Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical).

Cantankerous Abby is forced to share her room at the Bristol Place Senior Living Facility with Marilyn, a chipper new arrival. A sunny room on the upper floor is preferred real estate, so Abby begins scheming ways to get rid of Marilyn (short of just strangling her with her own hands!). The mismatched roommates make a seemingly harmless bet that soon escalates into a dangerous game of comic one-upmanship.

If Abby can make Marilyn angry, Marilyn moves out. If Marilyn can frighten Abby, Marilyn gets the bed with the window view and she stays. Both ladies quickly up the stakes in a hilarious battle to "win" the room, resulting in a series of hard-to-imagine pranks.
