This summer, join a fantasy ride into the land of pure imagination with Willy Wonka Jr., performed by campers at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre Paul and Sandra Goldner Conservatory of Performing Arts!

Performances of the family- friendly musical will take place at the Theatre on July 27 and 28 at 7:30 p.m.

One of the most enchanting stories of all time, Roald Dahl’s timeless story of the world-famous candy man and his quest to find an heir comes to life in this stage adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, featuring songs from the classic family film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Featuring a memorable score by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley, Willy Wonka Jr. follows enigmatic candy manufacturer Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding five golden tickets in five of his popular chocolate candy bars. Those who find the tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. Four of the five winning children cannot be trusted, but the fifth is a likeable boy named Charlie who takes the tour with his grandfather. The children quickly learn that they must follow Mr. Wonka's rules – or suffer the consequences.

“Willy Wonka Jr. is such a wonderful musical, and so full of imagination,” said Julie Rowe, director of education for the Conservatory. “It also teaches our students and the audience great life lessons: to be true to who they are, treat others with respect and that honesty is always the best policy."

Rowe is directing the production, with choreography by Broadway veteran and Conservatory instructor Brian Andrews and music direction by North Palm Beach composer, lyricist and writer John Mercurio.

The show will star students from the Theatre’s three-week Junior Conservatory summer camp (grades 3-5), in which students learn all aspects of stage production. Rowe has guided students through the process of auditioning for a Broadway show and a fast-paced rehearsal schedule, culminating in the opportunity to showcase all that they’ve learned onstage, complete with costumes, sets, professional lighting and a professional theater orchestra.

Students will perform Willy Wonka Jr. July 27 and 28 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults; $15 for children.

“The Junior Conservatory is a great opportunity for local children to have fun while performing in a musical, but also experience what it's like to work in professional theatre,” Rowe said.

Other exciting upcoming camp options for grades K-12 include a one-week comedy camp, a one-week “Under the Sea” camp and a two-week dance intensive camp.

To purchase tickets to Willy Wonka Jr., call the box office at (561) 575-2223. For more information or to sign up for the Junior Conservatory and other camps, call 561-575-2672 or visit www.jupitertheatre.org for a complete camp schedule.

The Conservatory offers a challenging, innovative and quality theatre experience to students of all ages and abilities. In addition to a full schedule of classes, the Conservatory's workshops and master classes offer students an opportunity to learn first-hand about the world of theatre from nationally known composers and performers, agents and local instructors.
