FTA Announces Increase In Grants And Scholarships

Florida Theatrical Association (FTA) has announced they have raised the amount of funds awarded for each of their five grants and scholarships for the 2018 - 2019 Season, due to an increase of donations from the subscribers of Broadway subscriptions in their three markets. Applications for FTA's grants and scholarships are currently being accepted through October 12, 2018.

Florida Theatrical Association Scholarships & Grants 2018-2019:

Bob Pittman Post-Secondary Education Scholarships - $7,000 each; 4 recipients (previously $6,000)

FTA's Bob Pittman Post-Secondary Education Scholarship Program was developed in 1994 to assist Florida's finest performing arts colleges and universities. This grant gives colleges and universities the opportunity to offset tuition costs for students studying Theater Management, Stage Management, Design & Production, and/or Performance Training programs.

Barbara H. Gault Professional Training Program - $4,000 each; 8 recipients (previously $3,000)

FTA's Barbara H. Gault Professional Training Program is designed to support non-profit, producing theaters that offer professional training. Eligible projects include student scholarships, internship programs, professional faculties, training program materials, or student performances.

Director's Chair Award - $2,000 (previously $1,000)

The Director's Chair award is awarded to educators working at the elementary to high school level. Recipients are selected annually based on their dedication to training and development for students in theater education.

Mr. & Mrs. Donald K. Yost High School Award - $2,000 (previously $1,000)

This award recognizes graduating Florida high school students who have demonstrated talent in the performing arts, and who are pursuing post-secondary study in the field of theatrical arts. Additional consideration will be given to students furthering their theater education at a Florida-based post-secondary institution.

Charlie Cinnamon Summer Education Scholarship - $500 each; 12 recipients (previously 6 recipients)

The Charlie Cinnamon Summer Education Scholarship is awarded to Central and South Florida high school students for continuing theater education through the summer months through theater camps, schools and workshops. The scholarships are awarded annually at the District Thespian Conferences in Broward, Miami-Dade, Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties. Introduced last year, one scholarship is awarded per district between to both a performance based and technical based recipient.

Florida Theatrical Association's scholarship and grants are partially funded by tax-deductible donations from their season ticket holders who continually support FTA's mission of cultivating and encouraging Florida's young artists and performers.
