University of Nebraska at Omaha Presents GROSS INDECENCY, 2/24-3/3
The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Department of Theatre presents Moisés Kaufman's Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde, directed by Dr. Amy Lane. Previews run Feb. 24-25 with performances on Feb. 26-27 and March 3-6 in the UNO Theatre inside the Weber Fine Arts Building on the UNO campus.
The house opens at 7 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. curtain for all performances. A group discussion will be held in the theatre after the March 5 production.
Gross Indecency interweaves trial transcripts, personal correspondence, interviews and other source material to tell the story of Oscar Wilde's downfall. Gross Indecency exposes the injustice surrounding the "great man of letters" whose artistic genius has long been overshadowed by the scandal surrounding his imprisonment. Reviewers agree that Gross Indecency "sweeps away cobwebs and distortions, allowing complex, credible human beings to emerge from history." The company of Gross Indecency invites audiences to experience this highly original and riveting piece of theatre.
The UNO Department of Theatre will also host a Prose & Poetry reading to celebrate Gross Indecency on Friday, Feb. 19 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Fireplace Lounge on the first floor of UNO's Milo Bail Student Center. The readings will be taken from a variety of sources, including: excerpts from the play, literature written about-and inspired by-Oscar Wilde, scholarly articles, texts addressing sexual identity, as well as selections authored by the "man of letters" himself. The reading will conclude with a group discussion.
UNO's box office is located on the first floor of the Weber Fine Arts Building. Ticket prices are $15 for general admission, $10 for seniors and free for all UNO students who present a valid UNO MavCard. Tickets are $5 for any non-UNO student who presents a valid school ID.
