OLIVER! Comes to Theatre Tulsa This Month

Theatre Tulsa will present Lionel Bart's beloved musical Oliver! at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center from January 10 through January 26, 2025.

Adapted from Charles Dickens' iconic novel, Oliver! whisks audiences away to the gritty streets of Victorian London, where young orphan Oliver Twist embarks on a quest for belonging, family, and love. Featuring unforgettable characters like the Artful Dodger, Fagin, and Nancy, along with cherished songs including “Consider Yourself,” “As Long as He Needs Me,” and “Food, Glorious Food,” this production promises a heartfelt journey that appeals to all ages.

With a dynamic cast of nearly 50 local performers, Theatre Tulsa's rendition of Oliver! is a celebration of community and talent. Directed and choreographed by Theatre Tulsa's Executive Director Travis Guillory, the production offers a deeply personal touch.

“This was the first musical I ever performed in as a 10-year-old playing the Artful Dodger,” Guillory shared. “It's where I discovered my passion for theatre and the performing arts. I'm just thrilled to bring the magic of this story to life for new and returning audiences.”

The enduring appeal of Oliver! resonates deeply with cast members and audiences alike. Guillory explained, “For so many, Oliver! holds a nostalgic charm, whether you've performed in it many years ago or watched the classic film with your grandparents. It's a story that remains close to people's hearts.”

This production is also fostering unique bonds on and off the stage. The blended cast of adults and children includes several family members performing together. Ensemble member Aimee Lemus reflected, “It's been connection through theater that I didn't even know our family needed. I just love sharing something that I love so much with my daughter. It's brought our family together.”

Jennifer White, who plays Nancy, added, “It's all the warm and fuzzies that you get from baking cookies in the kitchen together. But in addition to that, you get the natural high of creating art and making something really important for the community.”
