Lyric Theatre's ThElma Gaylord Academy will be hosting an open house for its 2010 fall classes on Friday, August 13th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Lyric Theatre production center located at 1801 NW 16th Street in Oklahoma City. The ThElma Gaylord Academy open house will be a great way for parents to meet the academy staff, ask questions, sign up for auditions, learn about the different classes offered during the fall semester as well as enroll.

Lyric's ThElma Gaylord Academy was established in 2001 to teach children the art of musical theatre and performing arts. The ThElma Gaylord Academy has become a significant training ground for the youth of Oklahoma City. Professional working actors within the community teach students the skills and techniques they will need in order to work in the entertainment industry.

The 2010 fall classes will be a 14-week semester that correlates with the Oklahoma City Public School calendar, and the semester will include a variety of subjects such as: Musical Theatre Production, Introduction to Musical Theatre, Theatre Magic, Acting/ Character Study, Introduction to Music Theory, Ballet, Tap, Theatre Dance, Dance Magic, Private Voice and Private Acting coaching sessions.

Starting this semester, Lyric is offering fun and exciting new classes such as, "RoKademY" and the All-State Audition Master Class. In the RoKademY class, students will create their own "Rock Musical" under the direction rock composer, performer and musician Matthew Alvin Brown. The All-State Master Class is a great class for junior high and high school students to learn technical aspects of the 2010-2011 Oklahoma All-State audition songs including foreign language pronunciation and singing techniques.

Semester classes are tailored to meet the needs of the 4-7 year old, 8-12 year old, and 13-18 year old age groups. At the end of the fall semester, the students in the Musical Theatre Production classes perform two productions in its entirety - complete with sets, costumes, props, lighting, and sound. The shows that the academy will be showing in November are Bye Bye Birdie and Little Red: The True Story of Little Red Riding Hood, an original musical written by Lyric's Director of Education, Stephen Hilton.
