He called her Sophia; she called herself "Whore". She knew she'd wreak havoc when she left. Now Gregg, abandoned, can only honor her self-serving legacy; and is consequently having a vaguely schizophrenic break. Friendship - a deceptively cheerful word, isn't it?
O’ Save Us, St. Sophia, a gritty drama that alternates between harsh street life and a haunted, surreal space created in an addict’s ailing mind; addresses the intimacy, vulnerability, and ultimate carnage that is friendship. “This play is both a celebration of friendship and an argument against it,” says director Sophia Lana Cohen Smith. “It’s for anyone who has ever asked themself if they should hang on to a sinking ship, or if they should cut ties.”
O’ Save Us, St. Sophia is a production of Dirty Dishes Theatre Company, whose members are part of The New School for Drama’s milestone BFA program. It is a selection of this year’s New York International Fringe Festival, which is celebrating its 19th year anniversary, August 14-30.
