Ying Le Presents CHLAMYDIA DELL'ARTE: A SEX-ED BURLESQUE, 5/14
Ying Le presents the New York premiere of CHLAMYDIA DELL'ARTE: A SEX-ED BURLESQUE, written and performed by Gigi Naglak and MeghAnn Williams. Preview performances of CHLAMYDIA DELL'ARTE begin May 14 prior to an official press opening of May 15 at Los Kabayitos Theater, at the Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center (107 Suffolk Street) in Manhattan.
First performed in the 2009 Philadelphia Fringe Festival, followed by a run in Washington, DC in 2010, CHLAMYDIA DELL'ARTE: A SEX-ED BURLESQUE is Gigi Naglak and MeghAnn Williams' traditional re-interpretation of a classic burlesque show. Sex education is addressed with a female skew, through comedy, satire, dance and songs. In one skit, Naglak and Williams satirically transform Shakespeare's famous balcony scene from ROMEO AND JULIET into a scene about masturbation. In another scene, the pair humorously performs a sexy striptease…about STD's.
CHLAMYDIA DELL'ARTE: A SEX-ED BURLESQUE has original music composed and sound design by John Glaubitz, lighting design by Evan Roby, and video and puppetry designed by MeghAnn Williams. Katie Pidgeon is the Production Stage Manager and John Nehlich is the Associate Producer.
Gigi Naglak is an actor, choreographer, dramaturg, teaching artist, and museum educator. She is a founding member of the Philadelphia-based Flashpoint Theatre Company, and has performed at venues such as Allens Lane, Simpatico Theatre Project, Tribe of Fools, and Delaware Theatre Company.
Scheduled May 14 through May 20 at the Los Kabayitos Theater (Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center – 107 Suffolk Street), CHLAMYDIA DELL'ARTE: A SEX-ED BURLESQUE will have a performance schedule of Monday through Wednesday at 8:00pm; Thursday at 8:00pm and 10:00pm; Friday at 8:00pm and 10:00pm; Saturday at 8:00pm and 10:00pm; and Sunday at 4:00pm. Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased through Brown Paper Tickets by calling 1-800-838-3006 or online at www.SexEdBurlesque.com.
