Vampire Cowboys Open GEEK! Tonight at Incubator Arts Project

Vampire Cowboys present GEEK!, written by Crystal Skillman and directed by Robert Ross Parker and featuring cast members Sheldon Best, Allison Buck, Becky Byers, Rebecca Comtois, Eugene Oh and Emily Williams. GEEK! will run tonight, March 21-April 13, 2013.

The show features Scenic/Lighting Designer: Nick Francone; Costume Designers: Kristina Makowski & Jessica Shay; Sound Designer: Shane Rettig; Multimedia Designer: Matthew Tennie; Puppet Designer: David Valentine; and Fight Director: Ray Rodriguez, with Stage Manager: Kelly Ruth Cole.

With pissed-off Pikachus, steam punk armies, stood-up Sailor Moons and roller-blading monsters on the prowl, it's easy to get lost in the Inferno-esque anime convention where the fans, the otakus, and the geeks prowl. But to score a rare signature from their comic book idol, teenage outcasts Dayna and Honey will take on obsessive magic players, Jedis and elfs, cosplayers and convention guards-through all nine flights of Ohio's Dante's Fire-Con-to get a chance to shake hands with their pop-culture hero. Dante's Inferno meets comic con geekery in this amazing new show by award-winning playwright and geekster princess Crystal Skillman!

Vampire Cowboys creates and produces new works of theatre based in stage combat and dark comedy with a comic book aesthetic that explore complex subject matters. The company actively pursues the mating of different genres (Film Noir, Teenage Comedies, Horror, Sci-Fi, etc.) with varied theatrical styles (musicals, dance, movement, etc.) to create an eclectic structure to tell its stories. The aim of the company is to bridge the gap between mass media entertainment and the performing arts, exposing audiences to challenging, thought provoking live entertainment rooted in today's pop culture vernacular.

Vampire Cowboys has produced Vampire Cowboy Trilogy (2004), A Beginner's Guide to Deicide (2005), Living Dead in Denmark (2006); Men of Steel (2007); Fight Girl Battle World (2008); Soul Samurai (2009); Alice in Slasherland (2010); and The Inexplicable Redemption of Agent G (2011 and 2012). The company's productions have been nominated for and received many New York Innovative Theatre Awards. Men of Steel and Soul Samurai have been published by Broadway Play Publishing; Living Dead in Denmark was reprised at the first National Asian American Theater Festival held in New York City in June 2007; and The Inexplicable Redemption of Agent G was remounted Off-Broadway with Ma-Yi Theater Company in spring 2012. Vampire Cowboys' Artistic Directors were named 'People of the Year' in 2004 by NYtheatre.com. The company received the 2006 Caffe Cino Fellowship from the New York Innovative Theatre Awards for continued excellence; and was awarded a Village Voice Obie Award in 2010.

Crystal Skillman (playwright) is a Brooklyn-based playwright. She is the award-winning author of CUT (The Management in Spring 2011; NY Times critic's pick) VIGIL or THE GUIDED CRADLE (ITG/Brick; 2010 New York Innovative Theatre Award for Outstanding Full-Length Script); and BIRTHDAY & NOBODY (Directed by Daniel Talbott for Rising Phoenix Rep in NYC; U.K Premiere with Kibbo Productions; Chicago at The Side Project).

Robert Ross Parker (director) Robert Is a Brooklyn-based director, writer, and actor. For Vampire Cowboys, he has directed the critically acclaimed productions of The Inexplicable Redemption of Agent G, Alice in Slasherland, Soul Samurai, Fight Girl Battle World (nominated for Best Direction by the 2008 NY Innovative Theatre Awards), Men of Steel, Living Dead in Denmark, Vampire Cowboy Trilogy, A Beginner's Guide to Deicide, and StaiNed Glass Ugly. Recent directing credits include How to be a New Yorker (currently running Off-Broadway); She Kills Monsters (The Flea), Goodbye Cruel World (Roundtable Ensemble), which he also penned, Hamlet (solo) starring Raoul Bhaneja (Hope and Hell), A Political Party!, the national tour of Children's Letters to God (Lamb's Theatre/Broadway Overseas Management), the Off-Broadway premiere of My Fake ID's (Lamb's Theatre), Lady Convoy (FringeNYC), Justin Reinsilber's F*cking Love (WEJ Productions), and numerous readings for Ensemble Studio Theatre where he was a young director-in-residence.

Incubator Arts Project cultivates and presents a multi-generational community of artists who challenge the conventions of live performance by producing original work at St. Mark's Church in-the-Bowery. IAP programs provide access to a fully equipped venue along with personalized career support and strategic investment of resources individually tailored to the needs of each artist.

By providing production opportunities for emerging to mid-career artists, Incubator Arts Project functions as a training ground where formative repertoire is conceived and new work can be constructed as each participant's artistic voice develops a distinct style. In addition to offering artists exclusive access to a theater, technical assistance and administrative support, staff provides professional mentoring and advisement to assist in the process of making well-considered choices in support of artists' long-term stability and success during all stages of their careers.

Core programs include the New Performance Series, Other Forces, Music and Short Form. Incubator Arts Project is fiscally managed by Performing Artservices Inc., a New York based non-profit arts organization, and is artistically led by a team of curators who collectively make programmatic, artistic and organizational decisions.

Since 2006, Incubator Arts Project has presented award-winning work by artists including: Alec Duffy, Banana Bag & Bodice, Bluemouth Inc., Debate Society, Daniel Fish, Half-Straddle, Karinne Keithley, Object Collection, Vampire Cowboys, and Witness Relocation. Incubator artists have seen their work tour nationally and internationally and go on to Off-Broadway runs.
