Theater for the New City and INTAR Present HAVANA JOURNAL: 2004, 3/26
Theater for the New City (Crystal Field, Co-Founder and Executive Director) and INTAR (Eduardo Machado, Artistic Director/John McCormack, Executive Director) will present Havana Journal, 2004, a new play by Eduardo Machado, directed by Stefanie Sertich, beginning performances Friday, March 26th and continuing through April 18th only, at Theater for the New City, 155 1st Avenue between 9th and 10th Streets. Opening Night is set for Saturday April 3rd.
Featured in Havana Journal, 2004 are Crystal Field, Juan Javier Cardenas, David Skeist, and Liam Torres. Havana Journal, 2004 will have set and lighting design by Maruti Evans, costume design by Michael Bevins, and sound design by Elizabeth Rhodes.
In Havana Journal, 2004, Ruth, a disillusioned writer and radical, leaves the halls of American academia to travel to Cuba. She hopes to find people there who share her beliefs and validate her struggle. It's not until her return to Columbia University that she is confronted by the realities of sacrifice and idealism.
Performances will be Thursday through Saturday evenings at 8pm, with matinees Sundays at 3pm. There will be an added performance Wednesday March 31st. Tickets will be $15 and can be purchased by visiting www.theaterforthenewcity.net or by calling 212/254-1109.
TNC is a Pulitzer Prize-winning community cultural center that is known for its high artistic standards and widespread community service. One of New York's most prolific theatrical organizations, TNC produces 30-40 premieres of new American plays per year, at least 10 of which are by emerging and young playwrights. TNC seeks to develop theater audiences and inspire future theater artists from the often-overlooked low-income minority communities of New York City by producing minority writers from around the world and by bringing the community into theater and theater into the community through its many free Festivals. TNC productions have won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and over 40 OBIE Awards for excellence in every theatrical discipline. TNC is also the only Theatrical Organization to have won the Mayor's Stop The Violence award.
