TURN OF THE SCREW Returns to Merchant's House Museum, 11/11-21

THE TURN OF THE SCREW, Jeffrey Hatcher's eerie, two-handed play based on Henry James's 1898 ghost story, begins a return engagement at the Merchant's House Museum (29 East 4th Street between Bowery and Lafayette) on Thursday, November 11 and plays two weekends only through Sunday, November 21.  THE TURN OF THE SCREW celebrated a sold-out run in February 2010 at the Merchant's House Museum in New York City's NoHo Historic District.  Tickets are on sale now to the public for the return engagement!
 
The intimate production (34 seats!) comes to life in the Greek Revival parlors of the Merchant's House Museum, a 178-year-old Federal house hailed by the New York Times as "Manhattan's best-preserved" 19th-century home.  The unique, haunted setting perfects the authentic telling of this classic tale, complete with historical lighting by Vincent Plescia and an original pre-show suite composed by Bryan Louiselle.  The production runs two weekends only: Thursdays-Sundays, November 11-14 and 18-21 at 7pm & 9pm (Sundays at 6pm & 8pm).
 
THE TURN OF THE SCREW stars Christina LaFortune and Vince Gatton*.  LaFortune ("ephemeral... floating above the stage" -FloridaToday.com) portrays the governess to two young orphans living in a haunted estate, while Gatton (Drama Desk nominee, Candy and Dorothy - "proves his range in a flamboyant portrayal that resists caricature" - New York Times) inhabits all other characters, including the wealthy uncle, the housekeeper and the children.  The production's creative team is led by director Ken Cerniglia and associate director Benjamin Shaw.  [*Member of Actor's Equity Association.] 
 
Prior to its NYC return, THE TURN OF THE SCREW is being presented over the Halloween weekend in Melbourne, FL at the The Henegar Center for the Arts in collaboration with The Florida Historical Society.  The Florida production is its first out-of-town engagement and runs Thursday, October 28 through Sunday, October 31 at 7pm & 9pm. 
 
THE TURN OF THE SCREW follows a young governess to an English country estate to care for two young orphans supported by their wealthy yet distant uncle. She quickly discovers that the sudden deaths of the children's previous caretakers haunt the home and seduce all who remain. The governess makes it her mission to purge these lingering ghosts from the premises by any means necessary.

Merchant's House Museum is the only family home in New York City preserved intact, inside and out, from the 19th century. The residence of a prosperous merchant-class family for almost 100 years, it showcases the family's original furnishings and personal possessions, offering a rare and intimate glimpse of domestic life during the three decades before the end of the Civil War.
