By:

The Stage Managers' Association (Jon Goldman, Chairman) announced today that it will hold its annual look at life from the other side of the curtain, Theater: A View From the Wings, on Monday, March 5 at Connolly's Irish Pub (121 West 45th Street) from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm.

The conference will feature panel discussions, a networking lunch and cocktails. Three panels will explore how stage managers work and interact with associate directors and production staff as well as the challenges and rewards of life on the road. The event is sponsored in part by Playbill.

"The Traveling Stage Manager – Tricks of the Road," a round table discussion about touring specifically geared for stage managers, kicks off Theater: A View From the Wings, from 10:30 am until 11:50 am.

After a networking lunch from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm, Theater: A View From the Wings reconvenes with the panel discussion "The Stage Manager and the Associate Director: How do we work together? What works and what doesn't?" from 1:30 pm until 2:50 pm. Lezlie Wade (Assistant Director, Jesus Christ Superstar / Dodger Productions and Associate Director, Henry V, Stratford Shakespeare Festival), Steven Minning (Broadway and National Tours: Resident Director: The Lion King and Supervising Resident Director: Billy Elliot) and Joe Langworth (Associate Director of Lincoln Center Theater's South Pacific) will share their insights about the working relationship of the stage manager and associate director.

Tony DePaulo (International Vice President and co-Division Director Stage craft of the IATSE International), Ken Keneally (Property Head for Book of Mormon), Laurie Koch (Production Prop Supervisor: Young Frankenstein, The Producers, Moose Murders and Chapter Two; First female member of IATSE Local #311), and Neil Mazzella (president of Hudson Scenic Studio and Hudson Sound and Light) are the panelists for final plenary, "The Stage Manager and the Crew: In the Trenches Together," which runs 3:00 pm until 4:20 pm.

Theater: A View from the Wings closes out with cocktails and mingling from 4:30 pm until 6:00 pm. All events will be held at Connolly's Irish Pub (121 West 45th Street, between Sixth Avenue and Broadway; Subway: 1/2/3 or N/R or B/D/F/M or A/C/E to 42nd Street).

"The Stage Managers' Association is thrilled to be a catalyst for bringing different aspects of theater together to discuss mutual concerns," said SMA Board Chairman Jon Goldman. Eileen Arnold, Theater: A View from the Wings Chairperson, continues, "We believe that our conference, Theater: A View from the Wings, will strengthen our community and create new working relationships."

Admission to Theater: A View from the Wings is $40 for the three panels and lunch, $25 for the three panels without lunch or $15 for an individual panel. SMA members receive a discount: $30 for three panels including lunch, $20 for three panels without lunch or $10 per panel. Advance tickets are available at http://stagemanagers.eventbrite.com.
