'Ripcords', A New Dramatic Musical, Presented In Fringe

By:

Emily Skeggs and Michael McEachran will star in a new dramatic musical called RIPCORDS. Gregg Wiggans will direct this musical drama, set in the 1950s, whose story concerns an incident of war profiteering that happened during WWII. RIPCORDS plays August 10, 13, 16, 21 and the 24th at The Bleecker Street Theater (45 Bleecker Street). The six-person ensemble cast includes Jason Lawgren, Edward Prostak, Evan Enderle and Abby Marsh.

In the 1950's, a new generation - called the "silent generation", as they were too young to have served in the war, but too old to be considered Baby Boomers - came of age. RIPCORDS tells the story of one woman from that generation: Susan Davies, an office worker at the Champlain Line Company in upstate New York. Susan faces a decision: should she settle down and marry Charlie, her humble ex-GI fianc?, or should she set her sights on more? Susan's choices become more difficult when Joe, her old flame, and the soon-to-be president of the Champlain Line Company, arrives. With Joe comes a secret from the past: revelations about war profiteering, which have repercussions that affect the whole town.

Emily Skeggs just recently starred in The Irish Repertory Theatre's extended run/revival of "Take Me Along." Michael McEachran, a FringeNYC alumni who created the hero Miles Muldoon in "How To Save The World and Find True Love in Ninety Minutes", returns to FringeNYC in RIPCORDS.

RIPCORDS features a jazzy score by young songwriters Anne Berlin (book/lyrics) and Andy Cohen (music) making their NYC professional stage debut this summer. Their Lil whodunit "Charlie Chang and the Mysterious Salami", an irreverent and politically incorrect spoof of the old Charlie Chan film serial, has enjoyed a sold out run at the Bad Musicals Theater Festival this past month. liz smith called that show "An hilarious event" and dubbed it a "Laugh Riot".
