Rebecca Steele Presents World Premiere of Solo Show BRACED at MITF, Now thru 8/5

By:

Rebecca Steele is set to present the world premiere of BRACED in New York City in July and August 2012 as a co-production with the 2012 Midtown InterNational Theatre Festival. Playing the Dorothy Strelsin Theatre from tonight, 7/19 to 8/5, in BRACED, life becomes twisted for a teenage girl entering the social hierarchy of high school with scoliosis. The production will feature direction from Maggie Surovell (Susan Lori Parks’ 365 Plays/365 Days at The Public).

“How did I become a circus freak in one Saturday?”In BRACED, after 13-year-old Lauren is diagnosed with scoliosis, she finds herself braced in more ways than one. Transitioning between over a dozen characters, Rebecca Steele tells the story of a girl who finds the will to endure life’s shortcomings and accept herself for who she really is.

BRACED will run at the Dorothy Strelsin Theatre (312 W. 36th St) tonight, 7/19 at 7:30pm, 7/20 at 7:30pm, 7/23 at 9pm, 7/26 at 7:30pm, 8/4 at 6:30pm and 8/5 at 7pm. Tickets, priced at $18 are available at www.midtownfestival.org or by phone at 866-811-4111.

The Midtown InterNational Theatre Festival’s 2012 Season runs from July 16 – August 5, 2012 at the June Havoc Theatre, 312 W. 36th Street, 1st floor and the Dorothy Strelsin Theatre, 312 W. 36th Street, 1st floor, NYC. Tickets are $18-15 and are available at www.midtownfestival.org or by phone at 866-811-4111.

John Chatterton created the MITF in 2000, a midtown alternative to other theatre festivals, as a way to present the finest Off-Off Broadway talent in convenience, comfort, and safety. In 2003, the MITF moved its activities to their current location, the Theatre Building on W. 36th St., where it has been successfully ensconced since. The MITF’s artistic emphasis is on the script itself, and therefore the Festival focuses on minimal production values.
