New Georges, the Obie Award-winning downtown theater company founded in 1992, will present Artistic Director Susan Bernfield's new politically charged comedy-drama Stretch (a fantasia), directed by Emma Griffin (Five Course Love), with music by Rachel Peters.
Stretch imagines the final days of Rose Mary Woods, Richard M. Nixon's longtime loyal secretary, as she observes the presidential election of 2004 from her Alliance, Ohio nursing home. She connects the past with the present while thinking about power, loyalty, and lying. Kristin Griffith, the Broadway, film, television actress and longtime Ensemble Studio Theatre member often remembered for her appearance in Woody Allen's first screen drama Interiors will portray Woods.
New Georges' recent productions have included Sheila Callaghan's
Dead City and Jenny Schwartz's
God's Ear. The latter, originally presented by New Georges in May 2007, will be presented as part of The Vineyard's current season this April in association with New Georges.
Performances begin May 2 at The Living Theater, 21 Clinton Street (between E. Houston and Stanton Streets) and will run through May 26. The official Opening Night will be Monday, May 5. The top ticket price will be $20.00. Tickets are currently available through Smarttix at 212-868-4444 or
