NEVERLAND: PETER RETURNS Debuts at the Swedish Cottage

City Parks Foundation is proud to announce the debut of Neverland: Peter Returns, an original marionette production beginning Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre in Central Park and running through the end of September.

Based on J.M. Barrie's iconic Peter Pan tales, Neverland: Peter Returns is the Swedish Cottage's spin on the beloved children's classic. Leaving their parents behind, the Darling children follow Peter Pan back home to Neverland for the adventure of a lifetime. When the cunning Captain Hook turns Peter's pals Tiger Lily and Tinker Bell against him, the children team up with the Never Boys to save the day, learning the value of forgiveness and friendship.

Written by Adam Kilgore and directed by the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre's longtime Artistic Director, Bruce Cannon, Neverland: Peter Returns is a fresh take on the Swedish Cottage's original production, The Peter Pan Game, which debuted at the historic venue in 1974 and was reprised in 2001.

"We are thrilled to welcome back Peter Pan and his Neverland companions to the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre," said Artistic Director, Bruce Cannon. "The story of Peter Pan has been beloved for generations, and our version featuring hand-crafted marionette puppets and an original score will surely continue to delight audiences of all ages."

About the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre
The enchanting Swedish architecture and craftsmanship of the Swedish Cottage which was suggestive of a model schoolhouse caught the eye of Central Park creator Frederick Law Olmsted, who brought it to Central Park in 1877. A traveling marionette company was founded in 1939 and in 1947 the Swedish Cottage became home to the company. In 1973, a permanent theater was constructed inside the Swedish Cottage, designed for marionette performances. Since then, hundreds of thousands of children and families from around the world have enjoyed its original productions. Under the direction of City Parks Foundation, the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre and CityParks PuppetMobile continues to thrill audiences from around the world, entertaining upwards of 65,000 people each year.

Funding for The Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre and "Neverland: Peter Returns" generously provided by Barbro Osher Pro Suecia Foundation and The Weininger Foundation, Inc. In partnership with NYC Parks and Historic House Trust.
