Lisa Timmel Joins Bated Breath As Managing Director Image

Bated Breath is excited to welcome Lisa Timmel as its new Managing Director. Ms. Timmel is an experienced independent dramaturg who specializes in new play development and production. Previously, she was the director of new work at The Huntington Theatre Company in Boston where she collaborated with an impressive slate of emerging and established playwrights. Ms. Timmel has also served as director of new play development at Playwrights Horizons, interim dramaturg and advisor to the Emerging Writers Group at The Public Theater, and artistic producer at Carole Shorenstein Hayes Productions.

Trained in dramaturgy and dramatic criticism at Columbia University (MFA), Ms. Timmel has worked with developmental organizations including Sundance Institute Theatre Lab, Stacey Mindich Productions, New Dramatists and many more. She also served as an adjunct professor of dramatic literature at NYU and Columbia University School of the Arts. Ms. Timmel currently teaches at Queens College and is an officer on the board of the Women's Project and Productions. She earned a BA in English Literature from Kenyon College.

"I'm incredibly excited to work with Bated Breath as their managing director. Much of my work as a dramaturg has been about creating and strengthening platforms for artists, stepping into this role is a natural growth from that ethos. Mara, along with the terrific devising company she assembled, make work that utterly delights me and I'm thrilled to be a part of their future success."

"I'm thrilled to open up the leadership of Bated Breath as we expand the breadth and depth of our work in New York." said Executive Artistic Director Mara Lieberman.

Bated Breath is an immersive theatre company that creates unique performances from the ground up. The Company uses physical theatre to put the life back into historical events, often including audience interaction as part of an unforgettable theatre journey.

Beneath the Gavel the interactive art auction play - which premiered at 59E59 Theatres in 2017 - at Feinstein's/54 Below on Friday April 26 at 9:30pm. Back by popular demand, Beneath the Gavel returns for another great night of interactive, hyperactive, erotically charged art auction madness. With a fast paddle and fistfuls of cash, compete with your fellow audience members to be the highest bidder in this theatrical mash-up of the real and the fake. World-renowned auctioneer Barbara Strongin takes the podium while the Bated Breath Ensemble takes the stage, exposing the hidden agendas and dirty secrets of the art world and leading the audience through a real art auction. Not a Rockefeller? Don't worry, Bated Breath provides the money so you can bid like your start-up just went public. Tickets on sale here.
