Larry Owens Comes to the Laurie Beechman Theatre with LARRY OWENS SINGS THE BERNADETTE PETERS SONGBOOK

By:

Why would a Baltimore-bred black man bond with buxom Broadway beauty Bernadette Peters? Find out as Larry Owens (Gigantic, A Strange Loop) explores music from the diva's extensive career on stage, screen, and record. Larry will be accompanied by the Andrei Strizek Trio (Andrei Strizek - piano, Jason Lang - drums, Tony Lannen - bass) and backed by The Bernadettes (Erika Conaway, Lily LaGravenese, and Tam Young). The evening features musical direction by Andrei Strizek and is produced by David Levy.

Just as Ms. Peters has performed with a starry array of co-stars, Mr. Owens will welcome several guests to the stage in homage including Ashley Blanchet (Beautiful), Nicholas Christopher (Hamilton), Derek Christopher Murphy (Wolk in the River), Heath Saunders (Natasha, Pierre...), Jenny Lee Stern (Forbidden Broadway), and Natalie Walker (Twitter).

"I've always loved Bernadette Peters - who doesn't?" Owens said. "But when I sang 'Move On' at Sondheimas at 54 Below two years ago, it really connected with the audience. David and Andrei have been after me to do this show ever since. I can't wait to share what we've cooked up!"

Larry Owens Sings the Bernadette Peters Songbook plays the Laurie Beechman Theatre (407 West 42nd Street, downstairs at the West Bank Café) on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 7:00 pm. There is a $20 cover charge and an additional $20 food/beverage minimum per person. Tickets and information are available at www.westbankcafe.com.

Larry Owens is an artist comfortable onstage or behind the scenes, currently working as an actor, writer, humorist and director. He has appeared off-Broadway in Gigantic (The Vineyard Theatre) and Fat Camp (American Theatre of Actors and NYMF); regionally in Grease (MUNY St. Louis), Dreamgirls (Portland Stage), Fat Camp (Cleveland Playhouse); and in developmental productions of A Strange Loop (Musical Theatre Factory) and Eighty-Sixed (Second Stage). In his spare time, he supports arts education and the non-profit Musical Theatre Factory. He is represented by Victoria Kress and Jamie Pillet at Abrams Artists Agency. This summer, Larry completed the ensemble training program at The School at Steppenwolf in Chicago, IL.

The Laurie Beechman Theatre is located downstairs in the West Bank Cafe, a charming & comfortable 100 seat cabaret and supper club that has been the home of some of the hottest Broadway & Cabaret performers for over 30 years! The Beechman has a rich tradition of presenting cutting-edge work, which has played a role in shaping American theatre and live performance. Since the 80's, the theatre has staged numerous plays and hosted a myriad of live performance events.
