La Mama Brings Movement Theatre Co. to Lower East Side with HOPE SPEAKS, 4/1-4/9

La MaMa presents The Movement Theatre Company (back in the club space for a limited engagement of Hope Speaks. Hope Speaks is a devised story telling piece created by Hope Speaks ensemble [Chanel Carroll, Cherrye J. Davis, Eric Lockley, Jonathan McCrory, Kimberly Young, and Kisa Willis.] and directed/conceived by Jonathan McCrory. This play was developed through TMTC's Ladder Series in 2010 and since then it has toured in Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD and is excited to be presented in the lower east side before it heads back on the road.
HOPE SPEAKS is an empowering, thought provoking, and dynamic devised storytelling piece that explores the historic 2008 Election of President Barack Obama. This play is a true melting pot of different ideas and throughout the journey of HOPE SPEAKS the ensemble members investigate and discover how race, class, and society play a strong role in defining America, and how we have fashioned a new icon of a black man.
