Hybrid Theatre Works Announces Global Spotlight Series at La MaMa; Final Showcase Set for 8/26

Hybrid Theatre Works, in collaboration with CultureHub at LaMama, has announced the inaugural Global Spotlight Series. The Global Spotlight Series seeks to provide a place for cultural exchange and exposure between U.S. audiences and artists with artists from specific regions around the world using the latest technology that enables us to bring artists and audiences together.

The pilot program will focus on developing workshop productions of new plays by playwrights from East Africa. Using video conferencing, playwrights will have an opportunity to collaborate face to face in real time with the U.S. directors and actors, as well as answer questions and discuss their work with U.S. audiences after the presentation.

The final workshop presentations will be performed Sunday, August 26 at 12:00 noon EST, and will be live streamed to audiences around the world in real time. Complimentary light brunch will be served.

The plays being presented are: "Silent Voices" by Lucy Judith Adong ( Sundance Theatre Lab, Fulbright Scholar) directed by Erwin Maas, "Un-Entitled" by Deborah Asiimwe (Uganda, Sundance Theatre Institute East Africa) directed by Tracy Cameron Francis, "Kawuna - You're It!" by Kemiyondo Coutinho (Uganda 2011 young achiever recipient) directed by J.J. El-Far, "Are We Here Yet?" by Ogutu Muraya (Kenya, The Theatre Company , Shakespeare Globe, London.) directed by Heather Lanza.

CultureHub is an incubator for creativity focused on the intersection of art and technology. They connect artists from diverse disciplines and cultures and provide them with environments in which to collaborate, experiment and explore. They serve local and global communities by providing an open space for creative research, artistic exchange and learning. Their telepresence studio in NYC features state of the art video conferencing technology which enables global artistic exchange and works toward pushing the boundaries of synthesizing art and technology.

Hybrid Theatre Works is an international collective which aims to re-shape the way theatre is created and experienced through projects that address human rights, social justice and peace-building issues either through the content of the final product or in the creation process.
