Hit The Lights! Theater Co. Presents WHALES At The Peoples Improv Theater

Hit the Lights! Theater Co. is pleased to present their original shadow play WHALES at The Peoples Improv Theater (The PIT), running April 24 through May 18th, 2018.

Inspired by punk rock house bands, interactive game shows, documentaries, and Herman Melville's seminal masterpiece Moby-Dick, Hit the Lights! Theater Co. invites you to catch a glimpse of the world that brought us a certain legendary white whale and the men that hunt him. Diving into the unknown, HTL! explores the classic title using their iconic shadow puppetry, the interplay between darkness and light, rock and roll sea shanties, and all the curiosity and terror of the sea.

WHALES features Hit the Lights! Theater Co. members Samantha Blain, Kristopher Dean, Claron Hayden, Casey Leach, Carli Rhoades and Mikayla Stanley. Before this adaptation, WHALES premiered at The Empire in Portland, Maine and had it's NYC debut at The Hive in 2017. WHALES was nominated for three New York Innovative Theatre Awards -- Outstanding Original Design (puppets), Outstanding Original Music and Outstanding Premiere of a Play.

Hit the Lights! Theater Co. is an award winning company created out of an artistic agreement to tell simple stories well, through unconventional means. Original works include DUNGEON (Audience Pick of the Fringe at the Cincinnati Fringe and editors Pick at the Minnesota Fringe), WHALES and a world premiere immersive theater experience, THE OTHER RHINE (Know Theatre of Cincinnati). HTL!'s Off-Broadway credits include their original performance of HORSETALE at Ars Nova's 2017 ANT Fest, La MaMa ETC Puppet Slam, and most recently DUNGEON at Ars Nova where Hit the Lights! is currently Company-in-Residence.

Whales performs at The PIT (123 East 24th Street in NYC) on April 24th (8pm), April 26th (9:30pm), April 27th (8pm), May 1st (8pm), May 4th (8pm), May 7th (8pm), May 11th (8pm), May 14 (8pm), May 18th (8pm). Tickets are $20 and available at thepit-nyc.com/whales.
