Dixon Place Celebrates Wayward Saints 1/29

By: Dec. 16, 2011

Dixon Place has announced a special one night event celebrating the release of Suzzy Roche's novel, Wayward Saints (Hyperion) on Sunday, January 29th 2012 at 6PM.

Suzzy's guest performers and authors include Loudon Wainwright, Lucy Wainwright (singer/songwriter daughter of Suzzy & Loudon), Dick Connette, Meg Wolitzer, Patty Marx and others to be announced.

Rich with wild and quirky characters, Wayward Saints is a tender, emotionally complex, and hilarious look at how the past always bumps up against the present. Punctuated by insider pokes at the music business (written by someone who's been there), as well as loving flourishes about family, faith, and the unpredictability of talent, the novel touches on the very deep pain
of loss, and the possibilities of the miraculous.

Along with her sisters, Maggie and Terre, Suzzy Roche is a founding member of the beloved singing group The Roches, whose debut recording was named Album of the Year by the New York Times. Over thirty years she has toured extensively throughout America and Europe, made more than twenty musical recordings with her sisters, as well as several critically acclaimed solo
projects. The Roches have appeared on Saturday Night Live, The Letterman Show and The Tonight Show. Suzzy has written and performed songs for TV, theatre, and movies, such as the children's classic Land Before Time and the indie hits Crossing Delancey and most recently Please Give. The Roches have collaborated with Paul Simon, The Indigo Girls, Philip Glass, and Laurie Anderson, and they also starred in their own episode of Steven Spielberg's Tiny Toons (where they engaged in a fierce battle with Porky Pig's son.)

Suzzy has been an associate member of the theatrical company Wooster Group, and has performed with them throughout Europe and in New York City Suzzy teamed up with novelist Meg Wolitzer to co-host A Love Affair Between Words and Music for WNYC at Symphony Space in New York, where they presented a song cycle using the texts of such varied authors such as
Mary Gordon, Harlem Renaissance poet Jessie Faucet, Shakespeare, and James Joyce, and Susan Sontag.

At Harvard University's Institute on the Arts and Civic Dialogue, Suzzy created the performance piece and recording Zero Church a non-denominational collection of prayers based on racial and cultural diversity. Zero Church has been performed all over the United States. Suzzy's first children's book, How to Form a Band will be published in 2013 (illustrated by Giselle Potter) by the Random House imprint, Schwartz and Wade.
