Death Revisited In LEDALEDA at The Tank

Death Revisited In LEDALEDA at The Tank Image

LedaLeda, a new play by Brooklyn-based artists Lukas Papenfusscline and Julia Duray, will have its New York City premiere on March 29th and features Elizabeth Stahlmann, fresh off Broadway's Slave Play (understudy). Duray and Papenfusscline, who do "what they can to subvert what's familiar in big and small ways" (New York Theatre), created this one-night-only event at The Tank at 312 W 36th St. Tickets are $15 and available on The Tank website or at the door.

This piece is an enacted eulogy for the artist's late sister, Leda Papenfusscline and empowers the idea that death lacks remedy: there is nothing to learn. By imagining a connection with the dead sibling, LedaLeda minimizes the power of narrative in favor of repeated ritual and honest reflection. This new approach to grief goes beyond "therapy theatre" as the artists interweave death with story and memory, working through ancient myth, pop culture, personal experience, and spiritualism.

LedaLeda is produced by d0g.mOUth which presents experimental and contemporary performance in the NYC area with a focus on projects that push genre to its limits and lift up queer voices. This premiere performance expands on previous work that this creative team has developed. Last year's Bottom Feeder premiered at Dixon Place in October and explored the radical act of excavating and acknowledging shared space in New York City.
