BREAKING NEWS FROM LITTLE PORTUGAL Hits United Solo Festival ImageCanadian actor, writer, and comedian Kayla Subica hits NYC this November to bring the international premiere of her critically lauded solo show Breaking News From Little Portugal: Everyone's a Puta (Even Your Grandma) to the New York Solo Festival. Delve into the cultish world of Toronto's Little Portugal, with the remarkable true story of how Subica sought to find her estranged Portuguese grandmother after two decades apart. Subica, who hosted Tech ER on Canadian television and starred as Gwen in the docudrama Harold and Lorna, seamlessly takes on multiple characters with warmth, humour, and insight.

Breaking News from Little Portugal explores what happens when the family unit is stressed, divided, and even estranged. "Although it's set in Toronto's Little Portugal district, the show is quite relatable to any immigrant family," Subica explains. "The characters will represent someone in your life, whether it's a family member, a friend's parent, an old teacher, or a boss you wish you'd never had."

After a successful debut in her native country asChoca, the and the 26-show run stretch in the Edinburgh Fringe, the production has been reworked, expanded, and re-birthed as Breaking News from Little Portugal-- just in time for this NYC premier. "During the original Canadian run, I was humbled to have audience members approach me saying they found joy and forgiveness in watching the show," Subica says. "For some, it even encouraged them to share their own stories and lift the veil of secrecy that shrouded their families."

Subica is thrilled to be taking Breaking News from Little Portugal to New York, and is currently scheduling the production's 2019 tour.
