30 ROCK's Maulik Pancholy Stars in THE AWAKE at 59E59 Theaters, Beg. Tonight

59E59 Theaters (Elysabeth Kleinhans, Artistic Director; Peter Tear, Executive Producer) will welcome kef theatrical productions THE AWAKE, written by Ken Urban and directed by Adam Fitzgerald. THE AWAKE begins performances tonight, August 22 for a limited engagement through Sunday, September 8.

The performance schedule is Tuesday - Thursday at 7:30 PM; Friday and Saturday at 8:30 PM; Sunday at 3:30 PM. Performances are at 59E59 Theaters (59 East 59th Street, between Park and Madison Avenues). Tickets are $18 ($12.60 for 59E59 Members). Three sleepers - a devoted son, an Eastern European actress and a Canadian man on the run - awaken to the fact that a mysterious corporation connects them. A meditation on contemporary America and how we live in a world we no longer understand.

30 Rock's Maulik Pancholy (Aunt Dan & Lemon at The New Group) is featured in the cast of six, which includes Jeff Biehl (The Master Builder with Andre Gregory and Wallace Shawn), Andy Phelan (MilkMilkLemonade), Lori Prince (Sarah, Sarah at MTC), and two more actors still to be announced.

The design team includes David L. Arsenault (scenic design), Travis McHale (lighting design), and Lisa Zinni (costume design).

Ken Urban's (playwright) plays have been produced and developed at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, Summer Play Festival @ The Public, Donmar Warehouse (London), The Flea, Studio 42, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Playwrights Horizons, Irish Rep, Primary Stages, and The Huntington. Upcoming: The Correspondent at Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre, directed by Stephen Brackett. Awards include the Weissberger Playwriting Award, Huntington Playwriting Fellowship, Djerassi Artist Residency, Dramatist Guild Fellowship, MacDowell Colony Fellowships, the Lark Play Development Center's Romania Exchange and SPF/Donmar Warehouse Residency. The feature film adaptation of his play The Happy Sad, with a screenplay by the author and directed by Rodney Evans, premieres at film festivals this summer. Ken has taught writing at Harvard University, Tufts University, Rutgers University, Bucknell University and the Einhorn School of Performing Arts at Primary Stages. He is in the band occurrence and their releases are available for free from their bandcamp site.

Adam Fitzgerald (director) is the Artistic Director of kef theatrical productions and a founding partner of Fifty2&Nine. With kef, Adam recently directed the critically acclaimed Mehthtacular! (Time Out NY Critics' Pick), Killing Women (with Lisa Brescia), and Lyric is Waiting. Other recent directing credits include Victor L. Cahn's Getting the Business (Rachel Reiner Productions), Marc Castle's Friends And Relations, Michael I. Walker's Letter From Algeria, and the concert of Carner and Gregor's Island Song for 92YTribeca. Adam was the 2008-09 Directing Resident at Playwrights Horizons assisting Wilson Milam, Bartlett Sher and Kate Whoriskey on plays by Nicky Silver (Three Changes with Maura Tierney), Craig Lucas (Prayer For My Enemy with Victoria Clark, Michele Pawk and Jonathan Groff), and Christina Anderson (Inked Baby with LaChanze). He served as the 2007-08 Artistic Associate Playhouse West where his production of Defiance garnered Critics Circle nominations for Director and Production. With Fifty2&Nine, Adam wrote and directed the PSA for the Ad Council and GLSEN which won a national Talent House competition judged by Brett Ratner and Tom Ford and directed Fifty2&Nine's first web series, Conversations w/ My Ex for GWIST TV.
