Flux Theatre Ensemble to Present World Premiere of FEAR & WONDER
Emily Hartford directs Jason Tseng's play at Jeffrey and Paula Gural Theatre / A.R.T. New York.
Flux Theatre Ensemble will present the world premiere of Fear & Wonder by Jason Tseng June 8 – 27 at the Jeffrey and Paula Gural Theatre / A.R.T. New York Theatres.
The production will be directed by Emily Hartford (Metra, Our Options Have Changed, Operating Systems) and will feature Neil Tyrone Pritchard (Dia Y Noche, Labyrinth Theater Company; Halfway Bitches Go Straight To Heaven; LAByrinth Theater Company/Atlantic Theater Company), Brian Tong (Stuy or Die), and Tonia E. Anderson (Richard III, Atlas Shakespeare Company; Beyond the Gates, CBS). Fear & Wonder has been included in Venturous Theater List 2025, selected for the Bay Area Playwrights Festival and Pride Plays (Woolly Mammoth), and was a semi-finalist for Maxim Muzambar Award.
Forced to share a room at a conservative Christian summer camp, picture-perfect Ryan and cynical rebel Jabez expect nothing but a week of forced prayers. Instead, their late-night debates spark a magnetic, dangerous attraction that threatens everything they know. When the real world crashes in, will the fear of losing it all tear them apart, or will they risk everything to make something wonderful?
The creative team includes Scenic Design by Will Lowry (Marsha Blovotnick and the Marvelous Magical Chicken Soup, Theatre Ariel; Metra, Flux,), Costume Design by Izzy Fields, Lighting Design by kia rogers (Metra, Flux; LAByrinth Theater Company; NYIT Award-Winner, Jane the Plain), Sound Design by Erin Bednarz (DRAGONMAMA, Geffen Playhouse; An Enemy of the People, Pittsburgh Public), and Intimacy Direction by Braxton Rae (Polly, Flux). Brian G. Murphy will serve as the production's Spiritual/Community Engagement Coordinator; Adam J. Rineer as the Music Director & Composer; Alice McKay as the Production Stage Manager; and Benjamin Balatbat as the Musician.
Continuing the successful experiment pioneered over the last ten years, no financial transaction is required to attend a Flux performance. Instead, attendees reserve a “Living Ticket” and are prompted to donate based on Flux's open budget and commitment to reach living wages for all staff and artists.
