After successful runs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the Dublin International Gay Theatre Festival, 108Productions award-winning production of Terrence McNally¹s Corpus Christi returns to the New York stage. LA-based 108 Productions' began performing Corpus Christi over two years ago and has played to sold out houses across the country and abroad, receiving international acclaim. CORPUS CHRISTI will be performed in honor of Matthew Shepard, whose brutal murder occurred just twenty four hours prior to the play's world premiere in 1998.
Originally opening ten years ago at the Manhattan Theatre Club to intense protest and bomb threats, the play¹s message was lost amidst the rancor. More recently, 108 Productions' CORPUS CHRISTI has won praise internationally for its bold re-imagining of this tale of faith and spirituality. McNally has said that he sought to include the LGBT community at the table of faith and to reclaim our right to explore the divinity in all of us. In celebration of the show's tenth anniversary, Corpus Christi will be performed for a two-week limited engagement in New York's renowned Rattlestick Theater in October 2008. Proceeds from the show will benefit The Matthew Shepard Foundation, now also in its tenth anniversary, in support of their efforts to "Erase Hate" in today's society.
