AMERICARING Named Featured Selection of the 2026 MITF at American Theatre of Actors
Performances will take place on Friday June 26 at 8:45pm; Saturday June 27 at 4:30pm; and Sunday June 28 at 8:00pm.
"Americaring" will be a featured event of the Midtown International Theatre Festival (MITF)'s 2026 season. Written by Kate Gill and directed by Frank Licato, this social drama will headline the festival's residency at the American Theatre of Actors (ATA) during its historic 50th Anniversary celebration.
"Americaring" is a visceral exploration of the collateral damage caused by a failing healthcare system. When a family is shattered by a systemic injustice that leaves them motherless and their father spiraling into alcoholism, the burden of survival falls on a teenage daughter and her younger brothers. As the siblings navigate a world that has largely abandoned them, the daughter finds a glimmer of hope in a budding romance with a wealthy classmate. However, their relationship soon collides with a hidden barrier, challenging the possibility of escape from their circumstances.
Playwright Kate Gill's play strips back the curtain on the "American Dream" to reveal the resilience required to survive its cracks. Under the direction of Frank Licato, the production promises to be a standout of the summer, offering the kind of high-stakes, socially conscious storytelling that has long been the MITF's hallmark.
