Twin Souls at Drammens Teater

november 26, 1942 was 532 Jewish prisoners brought on board the Danube. On the pier were the Norwegian poet Gunvor Hofmo. Her Jewish friend Ruth Maier was sent by ship.

The National Theatre has secured the rights to make theatre about one of the great friendships in Norwegian literature. TWIN SOULS created by the team behind UNDSET and based on Jan Erik Violence documentary books. The music is by Ketil Bjørnstad and on stage you are met by Marit Østbye, Janne Heltberg and Silje big rock.

The show portrays the relationship between the two young women to commemorate it, Gunvor filled with joy and expectations for the future. In spite of very different backgrounds, Gunvor from Oslo's East end and Ruth from bourgeois Vienna, was a very special friendship. Had it not been for only this war. ..

Gunvor Hofmo is considered to be one of our foremost poets and has been compared to Emily Dickinson and Edith Södergran. Ruth Maier is one of them we know most about the 765 Jews from Norway who was killed during World War II. Ruth Maiers destiny came to dominate entire Gunvor Hofmos biography. Hofmo even looked at Maier as a twin soul.
