Wolf Trap Presents the World Premiere of FACE OF AMERICA: Glacier National Park 8/19

By:

Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, a leader in commissioning new work and preserving cultural heritage through the performing arts, is proud to announce the world premiere of the sixth installment of its innovative Face of America series. The multimedia and multidisciplinary artistic adventure series uses the rich language of the performing arts to interpret the diverse cultures, communities, and geography found throughout our National Park System. The world premiere performance of Face of America: Glacier National Park takes place Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at 8 p.m. at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, just outside of Washington, D.C.

Face of America: Glacier features the work of Trey McIntyre, one of today's most sought after choreographers. McIntyre's new dance, The Sun Road, commissioned by Wolf Trap specifically for Face of America: Glacier National Park, will be created in Glacier National Park and captured on high definition video. During the world premiere event on stage at Wolf Trap, the resulting footage will be projected on an immense backdrop and integrated with live performance.

In telling the story of Glacier National Park, the event also features live performances by Montana artists including Blackfeet Indian singer-songwriter Jack Gladstone; cowboy singer Rob Quist; and Emmy Award-winning pianist Philip Aaberg. Poet Victor Charlo, great-great grandson of a chief of the Salish Tribe, and his daughter April Charlo will add the sounds of his original poetry in Englishand the ancient Salish language.

Displaying the rugged beauty, colossal scale, and fragile environmental of the park, the artistic dialogue entwined by Face of America: Glacier National Park's imagery and performance will help create a new perception of one of our nation's oldest and proudest resources. Wolf Trap is honored to be a steward of Glacier's magnificence, and an official partner in the centennial celebrations which begin this year.

Honorary Co-Hosts include: Senator Max Baucus, Senator Jon Tester, Governor Brian Schweitzer, and Congressman Dennis Rehberg. The project was partially funded by the National Endowment for the Arts through funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Tickets for Face of America: Glacier National Park are $38 in-house or $10 lawn and can be purchased online at www.wolftrap.org or by calling 1(877)WOLFTRAP.
