Have some devilish fun, and make your deviled eggs the star of The Nerd.

Join Wayside Theatre's 50th Anniversary Season by giving your deviled eggs a starring role in The Nerd. The theatre needs approximately fifteen dozen (at least 180) deviled eggs for the run of the show, with at least 3 dozen eggs per weekend. At the end of each of the five weekends of The Nerd, the cast will vote on the most delicious deviled eggs. Each of our five winners will receive two Pick-3 subscriptions for the 50th Season and two tickets for a select date to our Christmas production: Glory Bea! A Shenandoah Christmas Story. And, just for entering, you'll receive two free tickets to The Nerd. There are five chances to win, so don't miss out on this opportunity to showcase your culinary talents!

According to Artistic Director Warner Crocker, "When we produce a show that requires food props for the actors to eat onstage, we usually end up with a mixture of donated food and food prepared by our staff for the show. Well, in our upcoming production of Larry Shue's The Nerd, we have a scene where the actors eat everybody's favorite summer food, Deviled Eggs. So, rather than creating our own (frankly most actors and theatre folks are lousy cooks) we thought we'd see if some of the great Deviled Egg chefs out there would like a chance to make their creations the star of the show!

So, in the spirit of picnics, cookouts, and barbecues everywhere, we are taking all comers to see just who has the best Deviled Eggs in the Valley. We have to go through at least three dozen Deviled Eggs a week in the show and, including our preview performances and dress rehearsals, we'll need at least 15 dozen Deviled Eggs. We're accepting Deviled Egg entries each week beginning July 12 and concluding on August 13. The cast will choose each week's winner. We hope that folks will get into the spirit of helping us out and that they look forward to making their Deviled Eggs the star of The Nerd!"

Here's how to enter and win:

  • Call Cephe Place, our Sales/Outreach Coordinator, at (540) 869-1776
  • Let her know for which weekend you would like to provide eggs.
  • On one of our submission dates (Tuesdays of show weekends: 7/12, 7/19, 7/26, 8/2, 8/9; or Fridays of show weekends: 7/15, 7/22, 7/29, 8/5, 8/12), bring in a dozen of your best deviled eggs!
  • Come see the show and see the actors eat your deviled eggs onstage.
  • Keep an eye out for the results, released on Monday or Tuesday of each week, stating whose deviled eggs the cast liked the best.
  • If you win, get your free tickets and start making reservations for the rest of our 50th season!
