Virginia Stage Company to Premiere THE COMFORT TEAM, 10/30

By:

The Comfort Team by Deborah Brevoort will premiere at Virginia Stage Company October 30-November 18, 2012 at downtown Norfolk's Wells Theatre.

Chandra, Vicky, Jo, Marcia, Barbie and Mrs. Yates are The Comfort Team. Coming from various backgrounds, they form a steadfast support group as their husbands serve together in a combat unit. Through daily challenges and successes, the women transcend their differences and form a bond of sisterhood that supports them through life-changing events.

The Comfort Team is the fifth production in VSC's American Soil Series, developed to tell the stories of Southeastern Virginia that resonate throughout the country. The script has been in development for nearly four years and is based on dozens of interviews with Hampton Roads' military spouses by author Deborah Brevoort. In 2010, VSC was awarded a prestigious National Endowment for the Arts grant to develop the play. Hampton Roads is the setting of the play and, as the area with the world's largest concentration of military personnel in the world, is the ideal location to premiere this new work.

Dress Rehearsal of The Comfort Team is open to the public on Sunday, October 28 at 7:00 pm with a donation of $15. Preview performances are at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 30, and at 8:00 pm on Wednesday & Thursday, October 31 & November 1 with all seats just $25. Opening Night is Friday, November 2 at 8 pm, with complimentary champagne toast and light dessert. Tickets may be purchased through Ticketmaster by calling 800-982-2787, at any Ticketmaster outlet, at the VSC box office, or online at www.vastage.com. Group discounts for 10 or more are available by calling 757-627-6988 ext. 358. Regular performances run Tuesdays at 7:00 pm, Wed./Thur./Fri. at 8:00pm, Saturdays at 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm, and Sundays at 2:00 pm through November 18, 2012. Tickets range $25 to $50. All military and dependents with ID may request $15 tickets at the VSC Box Office on the day of show, for all performances, based on available seating.

VSC invites Hampton Roads to participate in Homefront Courage, a series of special events to honor the commitment and dedication of military spouses. Events include a forest of Courage Trees featuring personal tributes to our heroes on the homefront, and Letters of Care readings of letters between deployed military members and their spouses. Complete event details are available at www.homefront-courage.com.

A special weekday matinee of The Comfort Team, designed to allow military parents to attend while their children are at school, will take place at 10:00 AM, Thursday, November 15, 2012. Reserved tickets are available through the VSC Box Office for this show only at $15 per ticket, or through www.vastage.com

Audiences will remember playwright Deborah Brevoort's other works including: The Poetry of Pizza which had its East Coast premiere at VSC in 2008, The Blue-Sky Boys about the first Apollo moon landing, and The Women of Lockerbie, which won both the Silver Medal in the Onassis International Playwriting Competition and the Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays Award.
