TheatreLAB, Richmond's home for unexpected and evocative performance, is proud to present the first workshop reading from ON BOOK, TheatreLAB's new play festival. The Epic of Gilgamisha, by Dante Piro, will be performed on December 2nd and 3rd at TheatreLAB's venue, The Basement (300 East Broad Street).

In an age of increasingly contrived reboots, not even our most sacred stories are safe... Cue writing partners, Sherronda and Annaliese, commissioned to create a modern screenplay adaptation of the world's first epic poem. Soon, something ancient is awakened and begins pulling strings in the form of folk tales and one poor sap named Darryl.

From Playwright, Dante Piro:

"For me, one of the most critical parts of this process has been the connection to actors and directors who are just as, if not more excited about my work than I am. ON BOOK has provided the place and people necessary to help my play become the story I had hoped it would become."

From Program Director, Chandler Hubbard:

"ON BOOK is taking the next step in TheatreLAB's mission to foster new work and emerging artists and introducing them to the larger Richmond theater community. By working one on one with the playwright and using audience interaction to further develop it, ON BOOK and TheatreLAB are producing work that is edgy but accessible, unique but universal."

The cast features Morgan Howard as Sherronda, Kelsey Cordrey as Annaliese, and Dixon Cashwell as Darryl. The reading is directed by Zachary Owen.

The Epic of Gilgamisha will run for two nights - December 2nd and 3rd, and both performances will take place at 8pm with a post-show talkback about the show and development process. Admission is a $10 suggested donation ($5 suggested donation for students), with all proceeds supporting the 2017 ON BOOK Festival.

Reviewing members of the press are invited to attend either performance free of charge. Please schedule tickets, media coverage, and interview requests with TheatreLAB Managing Director, Annie Colpitts at Annie@TheatreLABrva.org. TheatreLAB is Richmond's home for unexpected and evocative performance. The Basement is located at 300 East Broad Street in Richmond's Arts District.
