The Grand Reopening of the Wells Theatre Sold Out; Tickets Still Available for A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE

By:

Virginia Stage Company is excited to announce that the Grand Reopening of the Wells Theatre on January 20 is sold out. This occasion also marks the opening night of the play A Streetcar Named Desire, which continues through February 5, Tuesday through Sunday, and has availability for all other performances.

Back in the Historic Wells Theatre after a nine-month renovation, updates to the space include two new classrooms, a new bar in the renovated and more welcoming Tazewell lounge, and as requested - more ladies' restrooms. Tours of the theatre are available for groups upon request.

New to the event, Virginia Stage Company announces that the musicians playing in the Wells during the celebration include performances from the Virginia Symphony Orchestra in the Harbor String Quartet, GSA Jazz from the Governor's School for the Arts, and Jazz by the Norfolk State University Theater Company.

Beginning at 6:30pm, the event will include a ribbon cutting, live music, and the opening night performance of the captivating production of A Streetcar Named Desire written by Tennessee Williams and directed by Chris Hanna.

No show could be more perfect for the Grand Reopening of the Wells Theatre. The building's magnificent architecture and Williams' towering masterpiece represent the best in American creative achievement. Very few plays continue to make as powerful an impact as when they were first written and performed, but Tennessee Williams' classic, A Streetcar Named Desire, is one. Brought to life with fresh staging and talent, Streetcar captures the yearning and humanity that has gripped audiences since Stanley Kowalski first cried out into the New Orleans night.

Virginia Stage Company is Southeastern Virginia's leading theater destination, serving an audience of over 70,000 annually both at the Wells Theatre and throughout the community. VSC's mission is to "enrich, educate, and entertain the region by creating and producing theatrical art of the highest quality."
