SPECTRUM to Present QUEERIOSITY: THE CONVERSATIONS NO ONE WANTS TO HAVE

SPECTRUM, the LGBTQ youth outreach program created by TheatreLAB and Richmond Triangle Players, is thrilled to present Queeriosity: The Conversations No One Wants to Have, an original piece written and performed by the SPECTRUM ensemble as the culminating presentation of the year-long program. The show will be performed by the SPECTRUM ensemble and is directed by Program Director Chelsea Burke. Queeriosity will run for two performances, May 26th and 27th, at Richmond Triangle Players (1300 Altamont Avenue).

SPECTRUM was created as a safe & creative space for LGBTQ-identified youth and their straight allies to share and celebrate their stories through the theatre arts. Through a series of master classes and workshops, the participants learn the basics of storytelling and performance, production and playwrighting, and marketing as they collectively produce their original piece of theatre over the course of the school year.

From Program Director, Chelsea Burke: "We started this year's Spectrum with the central idea of openness. Openness in the world, with others, and more importantly with ourselves. As with any devising process this evolved 100 times- was broken and bent and challenged and embraced. We had a lot of conversation around identity, advocacy, and education. The one major core truth the ensemble shared was they all received their queer education from media- specifically the internet. Tumblr, Twitter, YouTube- the internet is a veritable goldmine for counterculture and it was at their fingertips from a very young age. When that connection clicked, we knew that exploration was a perfect device for our story. Add a touch of humor, a dash of 'realness', and a ton of heart, and Queeriosity was born. I couldn't be prouder of their work and cannot wait for the world to join us!"

Tickets for the general public are $5 and patrons under the age of 18 may attend free of charge. Tickets are available now at rtriangle.org.
