Richmond CenterStage has been named a Bronze winner at the 36th Annual Telly Awards for their piece entitled El Pintor, Latin Ballet of Virginia, which aired on the Community Idea Stations. The Telly Awards honors the very best film and video productions, groundbreaking online video content, and outstanding local, regional, and cable television commercials and programs. This year, nearly 12,000 entries from all 50 states were submitted for consideration.

El Pintor was produced by Richmond CenterStage's Digital Arts Lab and was a collaboration with the Community Idea Stations and Latin Ballet of Virginia. The video features a flamenco dance production based on the art and life of Spanish artist Julio de Torres. Created by award-winning flamenco choreographer Antonio Hidalgo Paz, the story reveals the emotions and passion of Torres as he creates beautiful portraits and falls passionately in love with flamenco.

Latin Ballet of Virginia Artistic Director Ana Ines King said, "The Latin Ballet of Virginia artists, Antonio Hidalgo Paz and I are so proud and honored to be able to collaborate with Richmond CenterStage and the Community Idea Stations in El Pintor. This work not only demonstrates the beauty of leadership and promotes the passion for the arts and education we share in our mission, but it helps us to preserve the Hispanic culture, history and traditions of families throughout the United States, as well as make the Hispanic community feel proud of their roots and heritage. Gracias!"

Richmond CenterStage Director of Education Janet Starke added, "Over the years, we have partnered with both Latin Ballet of Virginia and Community Idea Stations on several occasions, but this project was a particularly enriching experience because it brings to light each of our distinct resources in a way that beautifully complements each other's strengths and expertise, with a running educational theme throughout all of our programs."

John Felton, VP/General Manager at Community Idea Stations, said, "We are very pleased to perform a broadcast role in the larger success of the Latin Ballet's El Pintor Telly award-winning performance on The Community Idea Stations. Congratulations to Richmond CenterStage and the Latin Ballet for their well-deserved award, and to CenterStage's Digital Arts Lab for providing a wonderful partnership with our organization."

Telly Award winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments in the world - including ESPN, FOX, Bravo, Dell and Condé Nast Entertainment.

Richmond CenterStage's Digital Arts Lab is housed within the Genworth BrightLights Education Center, and its primary purpose is to support the organization's education programs by creating and disseminating content for use in the classroom and home. The Lab also nurtures workforce development skills by offering instruction in video production - including "Video Production for the Performing Arts" - to students throughout the year, as well as professional development for teachers.

In addition, the Lab live-streams performance-based learning events to schools across the region, featuring chat-backs, master classes or lecture-demonstrations with touring performers and others. These productions are typically carried out by a crew comprised of current students, alumni, and interns. The goal is to provide students with foundational skills in the professional field of video and film, as pathways to careers. Several of the program's alumni are currently in media arts programs at colleges and universities across the country.
