Wayside Theatre Artistic Director Warner Crocker announced today the performance of The Nerd is the second production of Wayside Theatre's 50th Golden Anniversary Season. The comedy was written by the late playwright, Larry Shue. The Nerd began performances on July 16 and closes on August 13.

Artistic Director, Warner Crocker, said, "The Nerd tells the story of Willum Cubbert, an architect, whose life was saved in Vietnam by a soldier he has never met. This unmet hero, Rick Steadman, arrives for a visit and over stays his welcome." Mr. Crocker said, "This production is a side splitter and you'll bust a gut laughing at this play. This now-classic comedy by the late playwright, Larry Shue features one of the nerdiest of nerds who becomes the houseguest that anyone would love to send packing."

According to Crocker, "We have an exciting group of performers returning for our 50th Season. They are part of the Wayside Theatre family and patron favorites." They are veteran actors Ilona Dulaski (All I ever needed to know I learned in Kindergarten, Blithe Spirit, On Golden Pond, and Steel Magnolias), Jim Fleming (Driving Miss daisy, A Christmas Carol, God's man in Texas, Foxfire, Killer Angels, On Golden Pond, Miracle on 34th Street), Nick Nerangis (Miracle on 34th Street, A Christmas Story, It's A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play), R. Scott Williams (Shenandoah, Man of La Mancha), Forrest Limon (A Christmas Carol, Macbeth, Miracle on 34th Street), Tyler Plazio (A Christmas Carol), Dana Colagiovanni ( Reunion, A Musical Epic in Miniature) and Jody Lee (Reunion, A Musical Epic in Miniature).

The production is directed by Bill Diggle. The set is designed by Heather Reid, light Design by Wes Calkin, sound design by Steve Przybylski, and costumes designed by Tamara Carruthers.

The Nerd begins performances with low priced previews at 2:30pm and 8:00pm on Saturday, July 16. The official Opening Night is Sunday, July 17 at 6:30pm. Performances will continue through August 13th. Ticket prices are $25 to $30 dollars for adults. Ticket price for children 17 years and under is $10 for any show.
